چکیده

[1] Measurements during recent field campaigns downwind of the Indian subcontinent, Asia, and the northeastern United States reveal a substantial decrease in the relative humidity dependence of light scattering, fssp(RH), with increasing mass fraction of particulate organic matter (POM) for submicrometer aerosol. Using data from INDOEX (INDian Ocean EXperiment), ACE Asia (Aerosol Characterization Experiment – Asia), and ICARTT (International Consortium for Atmospheric Research on Transport and Transformation), we have identified, within measurement limitations, the impact of POM on the fssp(RH) of accumulation mode sulfate-POM mixtures. The result is a parameterization that quantifies the POM mass fraction fssp(RH) relationship for use in radiative transfer and air quality models either as input or as validation. The parameterization is valid where the aerosol consists of an internally mixed sulfatecarbonaceous accumulation mode and other externally mixed components (e.g. sea salt, dust) and is applicable on both global and regional scales. Low cost air quality monitors to evaluate nanosized particulate matter. A pilot study

Particulate matter is defined as a mixture of airborne solid particles and liquid droplets that can be inhaled and may cause serious health problems. Such elements are currently measured utilizing air quality monitoring devices that provide information on PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels giving information on pollution levels. However, many difficulties are encountered in the determination of nanosized ...

Hygroscopic organic aerosols during BRAVO?

The hygroscopic properties of the organic fraction of aerosols are poorly understood. The ability of organic aerosols to absorb water as a function of relative humidity (RH) was examined using data collected during the 1999 Big Bend Regional Aerosol and Visibility Observational Study (BRAVO). (On average, organics accounted for 22% of fine particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less th...

Origin of dust pollution particulate matter less than 2.5 micron in Mashhad city using HYSPLIT and DREAM8b model

Background and Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate dust origin particulate (PM2.5) in Mashhad city in a long period of time (2014-2019) based on unhealthy days. Furthermore, changes in meteorological parameters and their relationship with dust storms have also been investigated. Materials and Methods: In order to locate dust pollution hotspots in mashhad air, first, information...

Comment on "Size distribution of sea-salt emissions as a function of relative humidity"

Zhang et al. (2005) present a parameterization for what they term the "growth factor" of a sea salt aerosol particle relative to its formation diameter, which they assert "is a function of relative humidity alone" and independent of an arbitrary reference relative humidity. Here we note that this growth factor implicitly assumes an arbitrary reference relative humidity through the salinity of t...
